Projects!

The half bath is done!! Well, 99.99% - there's still a blank wall to deal with. But, thanks to a recent visit from Pop, the masterpiece is complete!

You may recall the inspiration was this $1280.10 sliding medicine cabinet mirror from Vanico-Maronyx's Linea collection. (And that price was for the 42" version. We needed a full 60".) Personally, I think ours looks a TON better. Granted, we got a lot of very skilled labor for free from both Bud and Pop, but the total materials cost was probably less than $250, and more than half of that was for the glass tile.

If only I'd had the time and skill to match my vision (or, heck, just the budget), this gorgeous thing would have been done months ago!

Also on Pop's agenda was finishing the wall cubes he made for us waaaayyy back at Thanksgiving. Inspiration for these was the wall cubes from West Elm and CB2 - average reatil was $15 each. I knew we needed 6 and couldn't really see spending $90 (plus tax & shipping) on such a thing. Again, the free labor was a huge money saver, but the wood is some nice scrap that Pop had lying around, so the only materials cost was for the finish and the wall anchors. They look SO GREAT!

Plans are in the works for more big projects this summer. I'm all asquee with excitement over them! Watch this space for updates.

new kitchen sink, some new pictures

Not a ton of progress since before. But still some good stuff. I'm really liking the glass tile accent in the master bath. The blue in there still seems somewhat garish to me; hopefully we can tone it down with some chocolate accents.

Only a few lights left to install (kitchen island pendants and guest bedroom light were on backorder), and more of the doors and trim have been installed. The baseboards (mostly) look pretty good, but the pantry door has now overtaken the coat closet door in the "ugliest door ever" contest.

Also, it turns out that the sink we shopped for 2 weeks ago won't really fit after all, especially with the faucet we chose, so we got a new kitchen sink. The old one had 2 identical bowls. This one has the asymmetrical bowls. Not ideal, but I think we'll find a way to live with it.

Some new pictures

More progress = more pictures. As of last night (probably before then), we have tile in the laundry room and kitchen. Nothing is grouted, but that's surely coming soon. Kitchen will get gray grout; laundry room will get something beige-y to match the tile.

I really like how it came out. And we do have some leftover tile to return, so that's a little bit of money back in our pockets!
